Brothers charged with Elk Grove Village robbery

A Cook County judge set bail Wednesday at $250,000 each for two brothers who prosecutors say were armed with steak knives when they held up an Elk Grove Village convenience store.

Andrew Tompkins, 18, and Nicholas Tompkins, 21, were charged with armed robbery, felony that carries a maximum sentence of 30 years in prison.

Cook County Assistant State's Attorney Maureen McGee said video surveillance shows the brothers entering a 7-Eleven store in the 500 block of Landmeier Road about 3 a.m. Tuesday.

They left with $490 and 10 packs of cigarettes and were arrested 2½ hours later, after an officer recognized one of the men from a previous complaint, McGee said. No charges were filed in that case, McGee said.

The brothers, both from Elk Grove Village, next appear in court on March 5.
