Lake Zurich edges Vernon Hills in OT

Senior guard Rachel Kuehr hit a 3 with 10 seconds left to help Lake Zurich force an extra period in the Bears' North Suburban girls basketball divisional crossover at Vernon Hills on Tuesday.

Then Lake Zurich went on to win it 47-42 in OT.

Vernon Hills, which got 11 points and 5 rebounds from Kayla Caudle, led 28-24 after the third quarter before Kuehr's shot forced overtime with the game tied at 39.

Dana Meline had 8 points for Vernon Hills (15-12), which dropped its third straight.

Lake Zurich improved to 17-10 overall.

Wauconda 47, Mundelein 34: The host Bulldogs made it memorable final game on their homecourt for this year's senior class with a victory in NSC divisional crossover play.

Allie Tylka scored 9 of her game-high 18 points the fourth quarter, during which Wauconda (15-11) outscored Mundelein 19-6 after the game was tied through three quarters.

Katie Rossetti came up with 10 points (including a 4-for-4 effort at the foul line) along with 10 rebounds, and Tylka had 6 rebounds, 3 steals and 2 blocks. Corrina Vaughan contributed 5 points, 4 rebounds, 2 steals and 2 blocks.

"It was a nice way to wrap up the regular season and let the seniors get a victory in their last game on home court," said Wauconda coach Jaime Dennis. "Although we started slowly, we started passing the ball better in the second half, which increased our offensive production."

Mundelein (5-22) was led in scoring by Kendall Wald (8 points, including a pair of 3s), and Amy Richards and Caity Pieklo had 6 apiece.

Warren 55, Round Lake 32: Warren jumped out to a 19-4 lead after the first quarter on its way to a 55-32 victory against host Round Lake on Tuesday in a North Suburban girls basketball divisional crossover.

Sophomore forward Kaylen Dickson scored a game-high 17 points for the Blue Devils (16-12). Sophomore guard Jordyn Hughes had 15, and junior guard Asha Lake chipped in with 9.

Round Lake (4-22) was led in scoring by Emely Martinez with 12 points and Miya Johnson with 7.

Zion-Benton 49, Lakes 41: A sluggish second quarter was too much for host Lakes to overcome in a loss to the Zee-Bees.

The Eagles were within 2 after the first quarter but were outscored 14-7 and ended up dropping their NSC crossover matchup of second-place divisional finishers.

Lakes drew back within 4 points of the lead after the third quarter before the Zee-Bees held them off with a 14-10 scoring advantage in the fourth.

"We started the game with good energy," said Lakes coach Brian Phelan. "After a rough second quarter, we did finish the quarter strong bring it to single digits. We won the third quarter, the team felt as we were right there to steal the victory.

"Our girls played with good pace and ran good offense tonight. Zion is a good team and they are quick, but we responded well."

Leading the way for Lakes were Natalie Iacopetti (12 points, 3 assists) and Ellie Haviland (10 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists).

The Eagles (17-13) also got significant contributions from Sarah Zellman (6 points, 3 assists), Mia Edwards (9 points, 5 rebounds) and Izzy Quaranta (4 points, 6 rebounds).

Libertyville 51, North Chicago 21: Claire Keefe produced a game-high 17 points in three quarters of court time as the visiting Wildcats picked up a win in their North Suburban crossover matchup.

Libertyville (15-12) outscored the Warhawks 18-4 in the first quarter, during which Keefe had 8 points.

Maggie O'Sullivan scored 9 points for the Wildcats, and Caroline Frea had 8.
