NYC's Carnegie Deli reopens after building code violation

NEW YORK (AP) - New York City's Carnegie Deli has reopened after being closed for 10 months due to illegal gas use.

The midtown Manhattan delicatessen announced the reopening on its website Tuesday. It was shuttered in April after it was found to be diverting some of its gas before it reached the meter.

Officials said the eatery had been paying for only about half of the gas it used for more than five years. Deli's owner Marian Levine was fined $2,600 for violating the city's building codes.

The deli is located a few blocks from Carnegie Hall. It's a popular tourist destination known for its massive pastrami sandwiches and pop culture cameos. Scenes from Woody Allen's "Broadway Danny Rose" were shot there.
