Learn about Lincoln manuscripts at Civil War Roundtable

The Grayslake Heritage Center and Museum offers a variety of entertaining events for local families in February.

• Thursday, Feb. 11, at 7 p.m., the Lake County Civil War Roundtable hosts speaker David Spriegel, who will discuss two previously unknown Lincoln manuscripts he discovered while working as an intern at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum.

• Friday, Feb. 12, at 7 p.m., the museum will host the Cinque Venti Wind Quintet for a Valentine's Day-themed concert. The Quintet will feature selections from Gershin's "Porgy and Bess," Gade's "Tango Jalousie," Steven's "Ars Nova Suite," and Ligeti's "Six Bagatelles." A reception will follow.

• Saturday, Feb. 13, at 2 p.m., the museum welcomes actress Lynn Rymarz, who will portray Countess Catherine Carnarvon. Carnarvon is the real Countess of Carnarvon Abbey, where Downton Abbey is filmed.

• Saturday, Feb. 27, at 10 a.m., the Grayslake Historical Society will give a presentation about the Grayslake Gelatin Factory, followed by a reminisce session for all. Learn a little local history and share your stories.

The museum also offers a variety of exhibitions for visitors throughout the month. They include "Embracing Change: The Growth of Grayslake," which explores the community's history from the earliest years to the present. The museum's Annex houses numerous agricultural implements, as well as an 1890s hearse and a kerosene wagon. "Food, Family & Tradition: Dining in Grayslake" celebrates the history of local restaurants, and the people who made them go. "Now and Then" juxtaposes present and past images of Grayslake, photographed from the same vantage point.

The museum is located at 164 Hawley St. in downtown Grayslake.
