Ancient tradition brought to the modern world for Ash Wednesday

The Rev. Betsy Ward and Deacon Judy Heinrich, the clergy of St. Michael Episcopal Church in Barrington, will offer the Imposition of Ashes at the Barrington and Fox River Grove Metra stations from 6:30 to 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6. Commuters may observe the centuries-old Lenten tradition before boarding their trains. All are welcome to participate in the "Ashes to Go" program or attend the parish Lenten services at St. Michael Episcopal Church, 647 Dundee Ave. (corner of Hillside and Dundee Ave.) in Barrington on Ash Wednesday, Feb. 6.

Traditional prayers and Imposition of Ashes will be given at 6:30 a.m.

In the afternoon, a family service and Imposition of Ashes will be held at 4 p.m. with an emphasis for children, and, at 7 p.m. a Choral Eucharist (Holy Communion) with Imposition of Ashes. All are welcome to join our rich heritage of Lenten observances throughout the Forty Days in preparation for Holy Week and Easter.
