Rio Ave hold Sporting Lisbon 0-0 in Portuguese league

LISBON, Portugal (AP) - Sporting Lisbon missed the chance to return to return to the top of the Portuguese league on Monday after being held to a goalless draw by Rio Ave.

A point leaves Sporting in second, level on 52 points with Benfica, which occupies first place with a superior goal difference.

The point keeps Rio Ave in seventh with 29 points after 21 rounds.

Also Monday, Braga beat Estoril 2-0 to consolidate fourth place.

Rui Fonte headed in a free kick taken by Pedro Santos in the 80th minute, and Ahmed Hassan Mahgoub then beat an offside trap to score Braga's second from Alan's perfectly-timed pass three minutes later.

Braga is up to 39 points while Estoril is 11th on 23.
