2nd man convicted in 2014 Minnesota pawnshop robbery
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - A second man has been convicted for his role in a Roseville pawnshop robbery that left a cashier shot and wounded.
A federal jury found Marvin Spencer Sr., 53, of St. Paul guilty last week in the July 2014 robbery of a Pawn America, the Star Tribune (http://strib.mn/1Q25roO ) reported.
Another St. Paul man, 52-year-old Derrick Lynch, also was charged and pleaded guilty earlier for his role as Spencer's accomplice.
Prosecutors say Spencer pulled a semi-automatic handgun from his waist and ordered two cashiers not to move. Spencer shot at and wounded one of the cashiers as the employees put up their hands. Meanwhile, Lynch smashed a display case and grabbed jewels valued at more than $58,000.
The two robbers loaded the jewels into a bag and drove off.
Several days later, Pawn America received a call from someone who said two men were at a Georgia hotel flashing jewelry and had a lot of cash. Spencer was tracked down at a home in Moline, Illinois, and arrested. The wounded employee identified Spencer in a photo lineup as the shooter. Lynch was arrested in Woodbury, a St. Paul suburb, nearly three weeks after the robbery.
Sentencing for both is pending. Spencer's criminal record includes convictions for aggravated first-degree robbery and burglary. He was released from prison about four months before the robbery. Lynch has convictions in Minnesota for burglary, arson, property damage and illegal weapons possession.
