Man shot in head in suspected gang altercation at Lake County bowling alley

A man was shot in the head early Sunday during what Lake County authorities are describing as a gang-related altercation at a bowling alley near Zion.

Lake County Sheriff's deputies were called to Pinsters Bowling Alley, 1646 Sheridan Road, at 1:40 a.m. for a report of a person with a gun. They arrived to find several hundred people fleeing from the bowling alley and learned shots had been fired, authorities said.

Deputies, with help from Winthrop Harbor and Zion police, set up a perimeter and located a man suffering from gunshot wounds to the head and leg, officials said. Lake County Sheriff's Deputy Michael Platt applied a tourniquet to the man's leg, stopping the blood loss. The victim was taken to a hospital and is expected to survive, sheriff's police said.

Preliminary investigation indicates the shooting followed a dispute between rival gang members, authorities said. Sheriff's detectives and the Lake County Sheriff's Gang Task Force are investigating.

Anyone with information about the shooting is encouraged to call the Lake County Sheriff's Office at (847) 549-5200 or the Lake County Sheriff's Gang Task Force Tip-Line at (847) 377-4424.
