Man accused of breaking into Geneva home, wielding knives

A St. Charles man has been charged with criminal trespassing, accused of breaking into an occupied home in Geneva early Friday morning, according to Geneva police.

John C. Reed, 44, of the 1600 block of Rita Avenue, is charged with felony criminal trespassing, felony resisting a peace officer and a misdemeanor count of criminal damage to property.

Four people were home at the time; one ran out of the house before police arrived.

Police received a call about a person walking down the street asking for help, stating “Help, help, call 911.” Then they got a call about a man breaking a window to get in to a house.

Police found Reed in the house, wielding two butcher-type knives that belonged to the residents.

He dropped the knives when the officers told him to do so, but then did not obey further commands and hit officers. One officer sustained a shoulder injury.

Reed was taken to the police department and then to Delnor Hospital for issues unrelated to the arrest, according to police. Deputy Cmdr. Julie Nash declined to say what the issues are.

No information was available regarding a court appearance or bail.
