Veteran 6-foot-5 center de Souza signs with Chicago Sky

After joining them for a second-half run last season, veteran center Erika de Souza is returning to the Chicago Sky for the 2016 season, team officials announced Thursday.

It will be the 11th WNBA season for the 33-year-old native of Rio de Janeiro. A 6-foot-5 shot blocker, de Souza started the 2015 season in Atlanta and joined the Sky as part of a three-team trade that sent Sylvia Fowles to Minnesota. The Lynx went on to win the WNBA championship over the Indiana Fever, which beat the Sky in a first-round playoff series.

"We are excited to have Erika back in Chicago," said Sky head coach and general manager Pokey Chatman. "She's an elite post player, whose presence was a key addition to our team last year."

In 17 games with the Sky, de Souza averaged 5.5 points and 5.5 rebounds per game.
