Aurora Methodists volunteer at relief center

Eight Aurora Methodists volunteered at the United Methodist Midwest Mission Distribution Center near Springfield Jan. 27-30.

During the sixth annual project, volunteers resided on site.

They helped pack 56 blankets, filled 828 flood-cleanup buckets, sewed 655 school bags, made 810 personal dignity kits and sanded and polyurethaned children's desks.

The center is the regional receiving and shipping warehouse for UMC international disaster-relief efforts.

It ships free supplies to disaster victims in the U.S., Africa, the Caribbean and Latin America.

Volunteers from Fourth Street UMC were Rev. Deborah Tinsley Taylor, pastor; Laurel Gilbert, lay leader; and Linda and Roger Spurgin.

Volunteers from Wesley UMC were Judy Brown and Susan Clark while volunteers from Bethany of Fox Valley UMC were Joyce Bahe and Tom Garvey.
