Mundelein Park District director receives top honors

Margaret Resnick, executive director of Mundelein Park & Recreation District, has been named Illinois Parks and Recreation Association's Professional of the Year Award recipient for 2016.

Margaret was presented this award at the Illinois Association of Park Districts/IPRA premier state conference for parks and recreation. This award is an honor presented to professionals in the field who have made an impact in the community to which they serve.

Margaret has been director of the park district since 2007 and has strengthened the district's financial position by obtaining grants and alternate funding while managing expenses, engineering park improvements and technological advancements for the most efficient and effective customer experiences.

Under her direction, recreation programs have expanded and participation has increased.

"Margaret works well with her park board, government, and civic leaders to promote Mundelein and collectively provide cost-effective services for our residents," park district board Vice President Kevin Dolan said.

"She is continuously advancing her knowledge through education programs and networking in order to offer the best of the best to her constituents."

The park district staff is proud of Resnick and her accomplishments and is happy to see her recognized for it.

Mundelein Park & Recreation District also received first place for the Brochure Series category in the "Agency Showcase Competition," the premier communications and marketing competition for park and recreation agencies. Entries are judged on four categories, including writing, layout design, cover design and organization.

Serving more than 60 years with the community, Mundelein Park & Recreation District consists of more than 800 acres, including 33 parks and facilities; trails and open space for hiking and biking; 20 tennis courts; 28 playgrounds; picnic shelters; and more.

MPRD serves a growing population of more than 35,000 residents with year-round programs and education and recreational opportunities for all ages. Facilities include the 18-hole Steeple Chase Golf Club, multifunction Community Center, Park View Health & Fitness Center, Diamond Lake Beach, Barefoot Bay Family Aquatic Center, Lions Field Skate Park, Regent Center for adults ages 50 and older, Fort Hill Heritage Museum for a history of Mundelein, and Diamond Lake Sports Complex.
