'Get Appy!' with Tri-Village Garden Club

Everyone is invited to hear Karen Sego present ""Get Appy!" at the Tri-Village Garden Club of Bartlett, Hanover Park and Streamwood meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 17, at the Poplar Creek Public Library at 1405 S. Park, Streamwood. We will have a meet and greet at 6:45 p.m. Karen has been the Adult Services Assistant Manager at the Bartlett Public Library District, for over 20 years and simultaneously has also worked 18 years at the Youth Services Dept. at the Carol Stream Public Library. Karen started learning about apps by visiting the Apple Genius Bar after getting her first iPhone. She attended an iPad class at the Geneva Public Library. The Bartlett Library Adult Services staff have put our collective heads together to create this presentation. Karen will focus on garden and plant related apps and throw in some more common apps people are interested in, with most of them being free. This will be a PowerPoint presentation starting at 7:00 p.m. and last about 30 minutes so she has time to answer questions. The "Get Appy" program is a collaboration of ideas and input from the entire BPLD staff, which are committed to helping the community by providing relevant educational and entertaining programming.

For our March 16th meeting, our speaker will be Glenn Grosch who will be talking to us about hydrangeas starting at 7:00 p.m. at the Poplar Creek Public Library at 1405 S. Park, Streamwood, IL 60107. Glenn Grosch is an experienced horticulturist and entertaining lecturer with strong academic credentials. Glenn has been on the Chicago Botanic Garden teaching staff since 1997 and has been offering programs through the Garden Clubs of Illinois since 1999. He has been a certified arborist. His presentations have a high educational content with an emphasis on understanding both the why and the how, yet remain fast paced. Hydrangeas is a colorful and fact-filled presentation on successfully growing hydrangeas in the Chicago area. Each of six species will be covered as to hardiness, light requirements, and moisture needs. The issues of how to prune for flower display, and how to manage the blue/pink will be discussed in clear detail. This very popular presentation is one of a kind in the Chicago area.
