Power plant proposed in Grundy County

MORRIS, Ill. (AP) - A private company has proposed a $1 billion natural gas-powered energy station in Grundy County in northern Illinois.

Construction of the plant could begin in 2018, depending on permit approvals from state regulators.

The (Kankakee) Daily Journal reports (http://bit.ly/1Ssdm3v) the project is planned by Maryland-based Competitive Power Ventures Inc. The company says the proposed Three Rivers Energy Center would be a 1,100 megawatt station that could provide enough electricity to power 1.1 million homes.

The project would occupy about 30 acres of an 80-acre industrial park just south of Exelon's Dresden Generating Station.

Officials say building the plant would generate 300 to 500 union jobs and there could be 25 full-time jobs when the plant opens.
