MainStreet Libertyville honors volunteers
MainStreet Libertyville is a volunteer-based, nonprofit organization whose mission is to preserve and promote downtown Libertyville.
At its recent annual meeting, volunteers were recognized for their past service. The honorees included Marty Neal, Ed Clover, Sara Rolsma, Stacey Adams, Veronica Allen and Chris Thomas. Brian Grano, owner of Mickey Finn's, was acknowledged for his renovation of a historic downtown building.
The Volunteer of the Year award was given to Maureen Hunt.
"It is an honor to be nominated for Volunteer of the Year," Maureen said, "especially when there are so many wonderful volunteers that donate their time and energy to help make MainStreet Libertyville a success year after year.
"Volunteering for this organization has given me a great opportunity to support my hometown while working with an incredible group of people. I look forward to helping out for many years to come."
Jan O'Malley, owner of Libertyville Massage Therapy Clinic, received the Business Award known as the Dom Lentini award, in memory of a long time downtown business owner who was an avid supporter of the MainStreet Libertyville program.
The award is presented each year to a downtown business owner for exceptional leadership and dedication in the promotion and benefit of the downtown community following the principles of the MainStreet Libertyville organization.
Jan said, "I am deeply grateful to Libertyville and Lake County residents for their loyal support over 30 years. Being Lake County's longest established massage therapy clinic is a privilege, and it has been a dream come true for me."
"Without the support of our volunteers, we would not be able to host our calendar of over 50-plus days of retail and community events each year," Executive Director Pam Hume said. "In 2015, our volunteers donated over 4500 hours."
The events include First Fridays, Out to Lunch, Farmers Market, Car Fun on 21, Dessert Walk, Historic Home Tour, Red Hat Day, and Dickens of a Holiday.
