Maicer Izturis agrees to minor league deal with Blue Jays

TORONTO (AP) - Maicer Izturis has agreed to a minor league contract to stay with the Toronto Blue Jays.

The 35-year-old has not appeared in a MLB game since April 13, 2014, while recovering from left knee surgery in 2014 and shoulder surgery in 2015.

Izturis would get a $900,000, one-year contract if added to the 40-man roster and would get the chance to earn $100,000 in performance bonuses based on plate appearances: $25,000 each for 300, 325, 350 and 375.

A switch hitter, Izturis has a .269 career big league batting average with 39 homers and 334 RBIs with Montreal (2004), the Los Angeles Angels (2005-12) and Toronto (2013-14).

Toronto announced the agreement Friday. Izturis will report to big league spring training.
