Chicago charity executive sentenced for misusing funds

WHEATON, Ill. (AP) - The former executive director of the Chicago Blood Cancer Foundation has been sentenced to probation and ordered to pay restitution after pleading guilty to using the charity's money for casino trips and other personal uses.

DuPage County Judge Liam Brenna ordered 65-year-old Charlene McMann of West Chicago on Wednesday to pay $44,000 to the Chicago-based Cancer Research Center. It has a mission similar to the now-defunct Chicago Blood Cancer Foundation.

Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan says McMann also received two years' probation.

Madigan says the Blood Cancer Foundation was formed in 2010 to help cure blood cancers through fundraising, education, research and promoting access to care.

But McMann transferred money from the foundation to her personal bank account numerous times from 2010 to 2013 for personal use.
