3 charged in series of Waukegan crimes

Three people have been charged for multiple armed robberies and a shooting in Waukegan, police said.

Police say Milton Chalmers, 22, of the 500 block of Archer Avenue; William Neely, 18, same address, and a juvenile, were all involved in an armed robbery and aggravated battery in that same area of Archer Avenue last Friday.

The victim, 56, was getting out of his vehicle when he was approached. When he attempted to defend himself, he was shot multiple times, police said.

Chalmers was also linked to an armed robbery of a person on Dec. 18, an armed robbery of a gas station Jan. 18 and unlawful use of a weapon on Jan. 26, police said.

Police say the juvenile was responsible for firing a gun on Dec. 4 in the area of Bluff Court and St. James Avenue.

Chalmers is charged with unlawful use of a weapon, reckless discharge of a firearm, aggravated battery with a firearm, armed robbery with discharge of a firearm, two counts of armed robbery, three counts unlawful possession of a firearm by a street gang member, four counts of unlawful use of a weapon by a felon and six counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.

Neely was charged with aggravated battery with a firearm, aggravated discharge of a firearm, armed robbery with discharge of a firearm, and two counts of unlawful use of a weapon.

The juvenile was charged with armed robbery and aggravated discharge of a firearm.

Chalmers remains in Lake County jail on $1.5 million bail. Neely is being held on $500,000 bail.

The juvenile was taken to Lake County Juvenile Detention Center in Vernon Hills.
