ILS Teachers Use Institute Day to Collaborate and Grow ILS Tech Program
On Tuesday, January 19th, Principal Delaine Schiestel and Immanuel Lutheran School's K-8 teachers spent the day in Barrington School District 220 classrooms learning about ways to further incorporate technology into the learning process. The collaboration was made possible through the efforts of Joe Robinson, Director of Instructional Technology for District 220's schools, and a long-time proponent of integrating technology into the learning process. Says Robinson, "It was a great opportunity for teachers from neighboring districts to meet, learn from each other, and create professional learning networks that extend beyond our individual districts."
Immanuel teachers explored a variety of ways technology can help them meet, and exceed, Professional Learning Goals. These included:
• Apps to enhance learning in K-8 classrooms
• Mimio/smartboard technology usage
• Integrating iPad and Chromebook usage in instruction
• Using the Google platform to collaborate and communicate
• Using technology to assist struggling students
• Enhancing Language Arts instruction through a variety of online resources
Schiestel adds that, "It was an excellent opportunity to sit down and share ideas with teachers from other schools. This collaborative dialogue benefits all teachers involved as they strive to meet the learning needs of their students. Finding new ways to bring technology into the classroom enriches the learning experiences for our students. I am so thankful to District 220 for welcoming us into their facilities."
Immanuel Lutheran is committed to innovative learning and will be holding a "STEAM" night for the entire community on February 2 from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. STEAM is an acronym for "Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math." On February 2, Busy Brains Children's Museum will bring their traveling exhibits to Immanuel and Immanuel's teachers also have fun, yet educational, activities planned.
