Elmhurst College MLK lecture on 'Reframing King'

"Reframing King: Revolutionary Warrior for Justice and Freedom" will be this year's Martin Luther King Jr. Intercultural Lecture at Elmhurst College.

David Stovall, professor of educational policy studies and African-American studies at the University of Illinois at Chicago, will deliver the talk at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 10, in the Founders Lounge of the Frick Center on campus, 190 Prospect Ave., Elmhurst.

Stovall's scholarship investigates critical race theory; concepts of social justice in education; the relationship between housing and education; and the relationship between schools and community stakeholders.

Turning theory into action, Stovall has spent the last 10 years working with community organizations and schools to develop curricula that address social justice issues.

His work has led him to become a member of design team for the Greater Lawndale/Little Village School of Social Justice High School, which opened in 2005 and where he also volunteers as a social studies teacher.

Admission to the lecture is $10 for the general public and free for Elmhurst College students, faculty, staff and alumni. Tickets are available at elmhurst.edu/tix. For information, call (630) 617-5186.
