Indiana man set for release after conviction is overturned

ELKHART, Ind. (AP) - A northern Indiana man who faced 50 years in prison before the Indiana Supreme Court overturned murder convictions against him and two co-defendants is set for release this week from a state prison.

Wabash Valley Correctional Facility spokesman Rich Larsen tells The Goshen News (http://bit.ly/1TnyGrU ) that 20-year-old Levis Sparks would be released Thursday.

The state Supreme Court in September threw out the murder convictions of Sparks and two other Elkhart men convicted in the 2012 death of a home burglary accomplice shot and killed by a homeowner.

Sparks was resentenced this month to nine years in prison on burglary charges. Co-defendants Blake Layman and Anthony Sharp to 10 years each on the same charges.

Layman is scheduled for an October release and Sharp is set for release in May 2018.
