Local Mundelein high school student fighting for Gold

Senior at Mundelein HS Isiah Vasquez will be fighting Feb 11, Feb 20 and again here locally at the Libertyville Sports Complex in the monthly Friday Night Fight series on Feb 26. But none of that means anything compared to the honor of becoming the Chicago Golden Gloves Champion. In the amateurs nobody cares about your record. What matters is how many Golden Gloves Titles or National Championships you have won. This years Golden Gloves will be Isiah's first chance to fight in that tournament because he was just given a $1,800 scholarship to Lake County Boxing via funds raised by Sheriff Curran, Mayor Steve Lentz, Police Chief's Guenther and Perlini that all fought last May to raise funds for the Lake County Boxing Club at risk youth program. Lake County Boxing has over 15 kids on scholarship but Isiah is showing more promise than others and has plans to turn pro after this years Golden Gloves. To see him fight locally come to Friday Night Fights February 26th. He will be one of the main events on the 15 fight card.
