Westminster Christian downs Christian Life

Senior Maddie Versluys scored 11 of her game-high 26 points in the third quarter as Westminster Christian outscored Rockford Christian Life 18-2 en route to a 49-30 girls basketball win in the Northeastern Athletic Conference Tuesday night.

"I think we played better as a team," Versluys said of the third quarter. "We passed the ball, we had more intensity. We just worked harder in the second half because we knew we had to. The first half we were a little shaky, but I thought we stepped up our game a lot."

Versluys now has 1,875 career points.

Elise VanNoord added 10 points for the Warriors (9-13, 5-2). Hayley Proper scored 14 for the Eagles.

Glenbard South 46, St. Edward 42: Madelyn Spagnola had 21 points and Katie Castoro added 8 points and 11 rebounds but St. Edward (12-9, 4-5) saw its four-game winning streak come to an end with this Metro Suburban West loss.

Batavia 65, Elgin 25: In the Upstate Eight River, Hannah Frazier had 24 points, Shay Bayram added 9 and Bethany Orman had a career-high 9 assists to lead the Bulldogs (18-5, 7-1) to the win. Frazier now has 1,870 career points and is just 52 points away from breaking Liza Fruendt's school record. Tianna Stewart led Elgin (3-19, 1-7) with 13 points.

Harvest Christian 79, Christian Liberty 40: Paulina Castro scored 27 points and Alyssa Iverson added 15 to lead the Lions (17-7, 5-0) to a NAC win.

ACC 56, IC Catholic 43: Paige Miller had 17 points, Sabrina Ganofsky 11 and Taylor Harizin 9 to lead the Chargers (14-9) to a Metro Suburban crossover win.

U-High 45, Elgin Academy 24: Joyce Giustina led Elgin Academy with 10 points in this Independent School League loss.
