Gurnee bridge repair continues on Old Grand Avenue

Construction crews for Canadian Pacific Railroad poured cement Tuesday and continued work on the bridge on Old Grand Avenue in Gurnee.

The Canadian Pacific Railroad expects the work to be completed shortly, but no firm date has been provided.

The bridge maintenance project has caused the closure of Old Grand between O'Plaine Road and North First Street for public safety reasons, and also to provide access to Canadian Pacific work crews and contractors, according to Gurnee village officials. The work includes repairs to concrete ballast retention walls and a self-supported walkway for the safety of train crews operating at night.

Entry to both Viking Middle School and Viking Park will remain possible throughout the project from eastbound Old Grand Avenue and O'Plaine Road.
