Lisle man charged with endangering child

A 28-year-old Lisle man is being held on $7,500 bail in DuPage County jail charged with endangering the health or life of a child by smashing a liquor bottle through a car window.

Officials said Jonathan Caffey, of the 400 block of Walnut Creek, and his girlfriend were having a domestic dispute in their SUV around 4:35 p.m. on May 12, 2015, when his girlfriend pulled their vehicle into the Jewel Foods parking lot at 1156 Maple Ave. in Lisle.

At some point during the argument, prosecutors said Caffey left the vehicle and his girlfriend began to drive away. Witnesses told police they saw him throw something at the SUV, which caused the rear window to shatter. He then ran from the scene as police were called.

Police said they found an infant secured in a rear-facing child seat in the back of the SUV. On the floor near the car seat was a bottle of brandy that Caffey allegedly had thrown. Glass from the rear windshield was scattered around the bottle and near the car seat.

Prosecutors said video footage from security cameras showed Caffey throwing an object at the car. A warrant was issued for his arrest.

Woodridge police arrested Caffey Monday on an unrelated charge and turned him over to Lisle police early Tuesday morning.

Caffey's next court date is scheduled for March 1.
