16-year-old charged with Schaumburg armed robbery

A 16-year-old Rockford girl will be tried as an adult for an armed robbery at a Schaumburg hotel.

Capri Broude was ordered held on $175,000 bail Tuesday. Prosecutors say she was one of five people who participated in the robbery, which occurred shortly after midnight Monday on the 0-100 block of East State Parkway.

Cook County Assistant State's Attorney Alyssa Grissom said Broude and three male thieves, two of whom had firearms, went to the room of a man Broude believed to "have a substantial amount of cash." Another female suspect waited in the car.

Broude knocked on the door, which was opened by the man's girlfriend, Grissom said. After the three male thieves entered the room, one of them held the girlfriend at gunpoint in the bathroom while the other two demanded money from the man, Grissom said. A struggle over the gun ensued, with the room's male occupant sustaining a broken finger, Grissom said. He was also struck in the head with the butt of the gun, she said.

The thieves fled in the waiting car but left Broude behind, Grissom said.

If convicted, Broude faces a minimum of 21 years in prison. She next appears in court on Feb. 18.
