Palatine Library Assistant Director Melissa Gardner Nominated for President-Elect of ILA

Melissa Gardner, Assistant Director for Public Services at Palatine Library, has been nominated for President-Elect of the Illinois Library Association (ILA). ILA members will vote in the spring election for the three-year term beginning July 1, 2016 through June 30, 2019.

During her career, Gardner has fifteen years' experience working in a variety of Illinois libraries which includes seven years' serving as a Library Director. She has also served as SWAN (System Wide Automated Network) Board President, a membership organization designed for libraries in the Chicago area that provides library collections and data in a shared, collaborative environment.

"This is an outstanding professional achievement for Melissa, a distinguished honor for the Palatine Library community, and auspicious opportunity for all Illinois libraries to benefit from her leadership," states Anthony Auston, Library Director.

ILA is the state library association representing all Illinois libraries and the millions of people dependent upon them. As a member of the ILA Executive Board, the President-Elect will lead and help to adopt, implement, and enforce all policies and budgets for the association and coordinate all activities of the association (including the internationally renowned iRead Summer Reading Programs).
