Mount Prospect Resident Brian Gilligan Earns Professional Certifications

Over the past few months, Morton College Business and Accounting Instructor Brian Gilligan received three professional certifications in the fields of accounting and human resources.

Gilligan, who also is the Department of Business Technologies Chair as well as a full-time faculty member at Morton College, is now certified as a Certified Management Accountant (CMA); Society of Human Resources Management (SHRM) Certified Professional (CP); and Professional in Human Resources (PHR).

"I am really pleased with and appreciative of the support I have received from Morton College administrators, including my Dean and President, to pursue these important certifications," Gilligan said. "In my opinion, they have certainly helped me remain current in subject matter knowledge of various topics in the areas of accounting and human resources."

Gilligan successfully completed a comprehensive examination on accounting and related subjects and satisfied the requirement of two years of management accounting experience to become certified by CMA, which was established by the New Jersey-based Institute of Management Accountants (IMA) to encourage further development in management accounting.

SHMP-CP certification recognizes the trend of how human resources teams are required to assume a greater leadership role and contribute and advance their organizations' strategic direction.

The Human Resources Certification Institute (HRCI) administers the PHR Exam. The Professional in Human Resources certification demonstrates mastery of the technical and operational aspects of HR practices and U.S. laws and regulations.

Besides his position at Morton College, he is a Commander in the U.S. Navy Reserve, and a Mount Prospect Library Trustee. He was formerly the Executive Director of the O'Hare Noise Compatibility Commission, serving with the ONCC from 2000 to 2010.
