Winter Walk on Feb. 13 to help Elgin Wayside Center

Elgin Wayside Center is planning its eighth annual winter walk, "Walk a Mile in My Shoes," on Saturday, Feb. 13, to raise hope and funding for the Elgin Wayside Center serving the homeless in the Elgin area.

The one-mile winter walk begins at Evangelical Covenant Church, 1565 Larkin Ave., Elgin. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. with a prompt step-off at 9 a.m.

The walk will end at the Elgin Wayside Center, 1732 Berkley St., where they will host an open house until 11 a.m.

Complete the online registration page and raise or donate $100 or more to receive a free T-shirt. The top group and individual walk fundraisers will receive special recognition.

Since 1993, the Wayside Center in Elgin has been transforming the lives of the hurting and needy. With the help of volunteers, the Wayside Center helps more than 200 people every month with practical, life-altering services. As a daytime shelter, the center operates a job skills program, life skills classes, a job liaison program and one-on-one mentoring relationships while providing lockers, showers, laundry services, meals, two daily Bible studies and personal motivational case management.
