Lake Villa D41 teachers willing to strike for new deal

Contract talks continue at Lake Villa Elementary District 41, where teachers union members have overwhelmingly authorized a strike if negotiations fizzle.

Illinois Federation of Teachers spokesman Kenzo Shibata said in a statement the next bargaining session between District 41 and its instructors is set for Tuesday, Jan. 26. Negotiations between the district and 180-member Lake Villa Federation of Teachers union branch started about nine months ago.

District 41 school board members sent a letter to parents Thursday stating salary and medical insurance are two significant issues that have yet to be resolved by the sides.

Union officials said nearly all of the 180 teachers participated in the strike authorization vote and granted approval for a potential walkout Jan. 15.
