Road to be named after Illinois man killed in Afghanistan

NEW WINDSOR, Ill. (AP) - A stretch of Illinois Route 17 in western Illinois will be named after a man who was killed in Afghanistan while serving in the Army in 2012.

The (Galesburg) Register-Mail (http://bit.ly/1SxkzAL ) reports that the portion of Illinois Route 17 that runs from Viola to the Mercer/Henry county line will be designated the Corporal Bryant J. Luxmore Memorial Highway.

Renaming the highway after the New Windsor native was the idea of members of the Mercer County Board. State Rep. Don Moffitt of Gibson and State Sen. Chuck Weaver of Peoria sponsored the legislation that was passed in the House last month and last week in the Senate.

Luxmore was serving as an infantryman when he was fatally wounded by enemy fire.
