District 212 holds One Book, One Leyden reception for author Reyna Grande

District 212 recently launched One Book, One Leyden, a community-wide reading project designed to encourage reading for pleasure as an integral part of daily life. The book selected for the project is The Distance Between Us, a memoir by Mexican-born author Reyna Grande.

The book is an inspiring account of Grande's life - first as a child living with an indifferent grandmother in an impoverished town in Mexico while her parents live and work in America, hoping to one day reunite the family stateside.

Community members are invited to meet Reyna Grande at the One Book, One Leyden Community Reception to be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, February 18, in the auditorium at West Leyden High School, 1000 N. Wolf Rd., Northlake. There will be a Spanish language session, and books available for purchase. The event is free and the public is invited to attend. Light refreshments will be served.
