Claver, Wheeling climb above .500

Coming off a career-high 28 points last Friday at Elk Grove, Wheeling's Melissa Claver kept her shooting touch intact on Tuesday night.

The 5-foot-10 junior forward scored all 18 of her game-high points in the first three quarters and sophomore teammate Nansy Velev scored 9 of her 11 points in the second half as the Wildcats posted a 43-37 nonconference win over Jacobs.

It was Claver's seventh straight game in double figures (16th for the season), and the fifth time this season Velev landed in double figures.

Junior Shannon Kennedy added 6 points for the visitors while senior Michaela Vasey and junior Coco Yoshino each had 3.

Wheeling (11-10, 2-3) visits Rolling Meadows (14-7, 3-2) on Friday night when Mid-Suburban East play resumes.
