Prairie Ridge sharp against Barrington, Carmel Catholic

In a triangular meet featuring three girls gymnastics teams with state tournament aspirations, Prairie Ridge co-op had the edge on Wednesday.

The defending state champion Wolves scored 148.35 to take top honors in the meet hosted by Barrington. The Fillies, last year's fourth-place state finisher, hit a season-high score of 145.65, while Carmel Catholic came in at 143.75.

Barrington senior Abby Hasanov led the way for her team, taking top honors on vault (9.7), floor exercise (9.75) and all-around (38.35), and delivering runner-up efforts on uneven parallel bars (9.4) and balance beam (9.5).

Prairie Ridge's Nikki Baars won both bars (9.45) and beam (9.6) and placed second in the all-around (37.85).

Carmel is in pursuit of its first team state appearance since winning the championship in the 2011-12 season.
