Ann Arbor considers selling downtown property to developer

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) - Ann Arbor is moving forward on negotiations to potentially sell a city-owned downtown property to a Chicago-based developer for $10 million.

Ann Arbor City Council voted 7-3 Tuesday night (http://bit.ly/1n9j9PC ) in favor of continuing talks with Core Spaces, which was chosen by the city's administration to develop the Library Lot property.

Core Spaces proposes building a hotel and apartment building with a public plaza on the parking lot next to Ann Arbor's downtown library.

A separate vote would be needed to sell the property.

The update comes amid concerns about Liberty Plaza, an existing downtown plaza that has seen problems with violence and drug activity.
