Carpentersville Wal-Mart on track for early summer opening

Construction has been smooth sailing for Carpentersville's new Wal-Mart Supercenter, village officials say, and the store is on track to open by early summer.

Contractors are working on the inside of the nearly 183,000-square-foot building, located near the Lake Marian Road and Kennedy Drive intersection, Community Development Director Marc Huber said.

"They've been moving quickly, that's for sure," he said.

The project is expected to be complete by the end of May, Village President Ed Ritter said earlier, and the store will likely open about four to five weeks later, giving Wal-Mart staff time to train employees and put up and stock shelves.

"It's very far along," Ritter said. "Our inspector and I were both amazed at how fast it is going because it's going quite well."

Carpentersville agreed to give Wal-Mart about $4.3 million in tax increment financing funds to help with construction costs.

The supercenter, which is relocating from an East Dundee location about two miles away, will have groceries, general merchandise, a seasonal garden center and a fuel center.

"They're working very aggressively on this," Ritter said. "It's exciting to see."
