Hinsdale South falls without Benson
Playing without Northwestern-bound center Barret Benson, resting a sore ankle after scoring 18 points in a semifinal loss to tournament champion Notre Dame, Hinsdale South dropped the third-place game at Wheaton Warrenville South's Martin Luther King Day Tournament, 46-41 to Stevenson.
All-tournament selection Brian Kern scored a team-high 20 points for a second straight game and Xavier Fobbs added 11 points for Hinsdale South (13-6).
Downers Grove South 66, WW South 62:
Sam Ebersold and Dennis Alibegovic led Downers South to fifth place at the WW South tournament. All-tourney pick Ebersold scored 21 points and Alibegovic 20 for the 14-6 Mustangs, with Tyree Spencer adding 12 points. WW South (12-7) got 18 points from Jeran Simpson, five 3s for 15 points by Ryan Scudder, and 14 points from all-tournament pick Matt Dacy-Seijo.
York 61, Waukegan 46:
The Dukes (13-6) finished in seventh place at WW South due to a strong second half, and 14 points from all-tourney selection Nick Trapani.
Bartlett 82, Metea Valley 77:
Despite 32 points by sophomore forward Malik Hall, Metea Valley (8-10) lost its final contest at WW South's Martin Luther King Tournament. Bartlett won the overtime period 12-7. Metea's Tristan Schlosser and Matt Helwig each scored 11 points with Harrison Kranz adding 11.
At Lake Zurich:
Addison Trail opened its second day at the Lake Zurich Invite with a 42-32 win over Streamwood. The Blazers were led by Eric Grygo with 11 points and Ryan Zygowicz with 10. In its second game Addison Trail (10-8) lost 46-40 to Carmel. Zygowicz scored a team-high 11 points for the Blazers.
