Political correctness seeks hegemony

Pat Von Busch of Mount Prospect, Jan. 5, correctly articulated why the administration at Wheaton College suspended Assistant Professor Hawkins regarding her act of solidarity with Muslim girls; it had nothing to do with the donning of the hijab. It was Hawkins' blatant theological error verses the statement of faith that all teachers at Wheaton College sign that caused her suspension.

Albeit unlikely, I would be pleased to meet a devout Muslim who shares the Christian belief that Jesus Christ is God in the flesh. Through artful misdirection Hawkins has turned an "ostensible" act of Christian love into an assailing of Wheaton College specifically and Christianity in general. "How," you ask? By shrewdly couching her statement, the central issue - that Muslims and Christians worship the same God, within the symbols of both an ecumenical solidarity movement and a racial/cultural discrimination claim.

While the media has us all focused on the latter two, her serious misstatement of faith is being allowed by the masses to fly under the radar. Consider this, when Hawkins said, "Christians are people of the Book," to which book is she referring? Is it not Islam that regards Christians, thusly? So then, to believe herself correct Hawkins presumes a Muslim perspective, yet, claims she's Christian. "People may doubt what you say, but they will believe what you do." - Lewis Cass

Whereas, there is a generally held principle that institutions and businesses have the right to hold to an autonomous mission statement, in reality that principle is under attack. This case is yet one more nail in the coffin being used by social activists to bury free thought, speech and practice. Political correctness seeks societal hegemony and social activism is its sledgehammer.
