Maine West DECA shines at Regional Competition in Rosemont

Maine West DECA was very successful at the recent North Suburban DECA regional competition in Rosemont, where approximately 1,300 students from more than 20 local high schools competed. Each student took an economics and business test as well as competed in one (team events) or two (individual events) role play.

Maine West brought 41 members, 23 of whom won a medal. Eighteen Maine West students were overall winners, meaning they did well in all events (test and role plays) for their specific competition.

Maine West medal winners are:

• First Place Overall: ​Brett Patterson (Principles of Business Administration); Justin Varkey (Principles of Marketing); Team of Richa Patel and Vaidika Patel (Hospitality Services)

• Second Place Overall: ​Caty Buchaniec (Food Marketing); Sanchita Chakraborty (Principles of Business Administration); Camille Wilczek (Principles of Finance); Miljana Djurovic (Apparel and Accessories Marketing); Team of Dulce Cabrera & Kajol Patel (Business Law and Ethics); Team of Dara Kovacheva and Brooke Saunders (Marketing Communications); Team of Arsalan Afshar, Brad Burton and Melvin Sunil (Entrepreneurship Innovation Plan­written Event & Presentation)

• Third Place Overall: Runal Patel (Principles of Hospitality and Tourism); Brad Burton (Restaurant and Food Service Management); Team of Ian Huetter and Zack Tao (Marketing Communications)

The following students did not win overall in their event, but won a medal in a specific part of their event:

• Bright Agyarko (Sports & Entertainment Marketing)-third place on role play #1; Chris Jensen (Quick Serve Restaurant Management)­ second place on test; Sanitha Mathews (Business Services Marketing)-third place on role play #2; Varun Nair (Principles of Business Administration)-third place on test; Dimitar Popov (Restaurant and Food Service Management)-third place on test.
