On a chilly Sunday when many in the suburbs understandably stayed inside to keep warm, some brave souls embraced the season and its outdoor activities at the Schaumburg Park District's Winter Fest.

The annual event at the district's Spring Valley Nature Center was scheduled to feature snowshoe walks through the prairie, wagon rides, sled dog demonstrations and marshmallows roasted over a bonfire.

When it was time to warm up, visitors headed inside the nature center for snacks, crafts and winter-themed activities.
