Prospect dominates at Dundee-Crown

Total domination.

With 18 pins, Prospect picked up three impressive wins at Saturday's Dundee-Crown quadrangular wrestling meet held in Carpentersville.

The Knights defeated Geneva 54-10, Lane Tech 78-6 and Dundee-Crown 71-4.

"We have really been working hard on pins in practice recently and that work paid off today," said Knights' coach Tom Whalen. "We have been wrestling with great tempo. Our focus now is to get ready for the conference and regional meets coming up."

Prospect (18-6) received 2 pins each from Anthony Silva (120), Miguel Romero (126), Al Dakka Simini (132), Vince Lobano (138) and Joe Siracusa (170).

Perfect on the day for the Knights with 3-0 records included Siracusa, Bob Jarosz (160), Andrew Bagsinger (106), Dexter Staczek (113) Matt Wroblewski (182), Jake Verschoor (145), Tormer Strobel (152), and Matt Schultz (220),

Geneva (13-11), which defeated D-C 52-22 and Lane Tech 54-18, got 3 wins and 2 pins each from Tyler Landrum (120), Mike Donatelli (126) and Steve McDonald (132).

"We are very strong at 120, 126 and 132 with Tyler, Mike and Steve," said Geneva coach Tom Chernich. "They all wrestled very good today and have been very consistent all season long. I feel good all will do well at the (Upstate Eight) conference meet coming up. We had a good day. Prospect was a very good opponent and we can learn from that match."

Honor Nguyen (106), Max Miller (113), Nic Anastasia (145), Nick Sowers (170) and Zack Ostrowski (220) registered 2 wins each for the Vikings.

Dundee-Crown, which has been injury-riddled all season long, lost a hard-fought 37-36 decision to Lane Tech.

The Chargers' lone bright spot for the day was senior Christian Brunner, who upped his undefeated slate to 31-0 with 3 wins including 2 pins.

Brunner, who will wrestle at Purdue, now has 26 pins for the season. He needs 2 wins to set the school record for wins in a career.

Brandon Rico (120, pin) Chase Raap (182) and Christian Rodriguez (285) each picked up a win for the Chargers on the mat.

"I have been happy all season with the way our upper weight guys Christian Brunner, Christian Rodriguez and Chase Raap have wrestled all season," said D-C coach Tim Hayes. "Because of all the injuries we just don't have a presence as a team."
