Another Kehr key for Mundelein

Meagen Kehr has been a great addition for Mundelein's girls gymnastics team.

She joined the team as a senior after watching her sister McKenzie reach state last year.

On Saturday, Kehr performed at her best, posting a 38 all-around score in the Lake County meet in Mundelein. She earned top honors on vault (9.65) and bars (9.4), and was second on beam (9.5) and floor (9.45).

"I got a chance to compete against some girls that I compete with in the gym," Kehr said. "This was a really competitive meet for us going against teams like Carmel and Barrington. It was exciting for us. Vault was consistent and I was excited about floor. This was my best meet of the season."

Carmel won the meet with 146.625.

"We wanted to see how energized the team was coming in," Corsairs coach Nicole Stroup. said. "The girls were focused."

Carmel competed without Alyssa Legerreta, who injured her wrist on Thursday.

"We had to make some lineup changes," Stroup said. "The team adjusted pretty well. The other girls picked it up today."

Carmel's Anna Osowski was second in the all-around (37.275), and Sammi Lococo took third (37.25) for the Corsairs. Lococo placed second on vault (9.6), while Osowski tied for fourth with Mundelein's Taylor Shanahan and Warren's Teagon Albert at 9.4. Osowski also chalked up fourth on bars (9.225), tied for third with Shanahan (9.25) on beam and was third on floor (9.4). Lococo won beam (9.65) and was fourth on floor (9.35). Kelly Gustafson also took fifth on floor (9.3).

Shanahan placed third on bars (9.25). Taylor Kozaritz was fifth on beam (9.2) and fifth in the all-around (36.4).

Mundelein set its high mark of season with a 144.25 in taking runner-up honors.

"The girls are starting to be consistent," Mundelein coach Jamie Brongiel said. "They're getting their tricks and getting confident with them. It really shows out here. We've got three seniors on varsity that really want this to be their year. They think they can do better after coming up short at sectionals."

Warren, which was third with 138.3, saw the sophomore Albert finish fourth in the all-around (37.1). She had one of her best meets this season, as she also took the top spot on floor (9.5) and was second on bars (9.5).

"It was nice to hit my routine on the floor," Albert said. "I'm getting more confidence in my routines."

Barrington (fourth, 136.675) competed without Abby Hasonov, who was out with an injury.

"We didn't have her compete because she has a nagging back injury," Barrington coach Jason Loeffler said. "This isn't what we're looking for, but it's not the end of the season. We were more just getting through it."

Barrington's Molly Blanke placed third on vault (9.45). Stevenson was led by Mikaela Webb, who earned fifth on bars (9.2).
