Wauconda returns to winning ways

Katie Rossetti poured in 18 points and grabbed 8 rebounds, and Wauconda's girls basketball team snapped a seven-game losing streak with a 42-23 win over visiting North Chicago in North Suburban Prairie Division action Saturday night.

Wauconda (11-8, 3-4) led only 9-6 after one quarter and 15-12 at halftime, before outscoring the Warhawks 19-0 in the third quarter.

"It was a slow start for us, lacked intensity to begin the game," Bulldogs coach Jaime Dennis said. "It took two quarters before we executed our game plan. Defense started to play more aggressively and we started to move the ball better on offense. This was the first time since before Christmas to have all members of the team healthy and available to play."

Wauconda welcomed the return of Hayley Redmann, who suffered a concussion in the Northern Illinois Holiday Classic and missed seven straight games. She finished with 2 points and 3 assists.

"It was nice to have Redmann back," Dennis said. "She always does a nice job passing the ball."

Corrina Vaughan had 8 points and 8 steals for Wauconda, which also got contributions from freshman Allie Tylka (9 rebounds, 3 points), Marissa Miller (5 points, 7 rebounds) and Mallory Carver (4 points).

"Marissa Miller and Mallory Carver contributed some very important buckets tonight," Dennis said.
