Palatine man sentenced for 2014 Wheeling shooting

A Palatine man, convicted of firing into a vehicle in Wheeling where two women were sitting was sentenced to 15 years in prison Friday.

Adrian Soto, 20, was convicted of aggravated discharge of a firearm and armed violence after a bench trial last month.

Prosecutors say two shots fired in October of 2014 struck the vehicle's driver's side, but no one was injured. Witnesses identified Soto, known by police as a gang member, as the shooter, prosecutors said.

Soto, who has credit for more than one year in custody, must serve at least 85 percent of his sentence before he is eligible for parole, said Cook County Assistant State's Attorney Mike Crowe.
