Feds say Naperville man lied about Chinese Communist Party past

A Naperville man who is a former Chinese Communist Party member has been charged with immigration fraud, according to federal authorities.

FBI and U.S. attorney officials announced Friday that Lu Lin, 58, of the 4200 block of Colton Circle, faces one count of obtaining citizenship or naturalization unlawfully. His arraignment on the charge in federal court in Chicago is set for Thursday, Jan. 21, before U.S. District Judge Edmund E. Chang.

Lin, a Chinese citizen who became a U.S. citizen, stated on his naturalization application he had never used any other names nor was a member of or associated with the Communist Party, federal officials said.

Federal authorities said Lin actually received an identification document with his photograph but with the name Yung Yeung. Officials said Yeung was a member of China's Ministry of Public Security.

Federal officials didn't disclose in Friday's announcement when Lin purportedly became a U.S. citizen. They said Lin was a member of the Chinese Communist Party from 1987 to 1997.

Lin is accused of using Ministry of Public Security identification to first enter Hong Kong. Once in Hong Kong, authorities said, Lin obtained information that he presented to China's Ministry of State Security as part of his trek to the United States.

Federal authorities said the Ministry of Public Security is China's law enforcement agency and the national police force. China's Ministry of State Security is the country's intelligence agency responsible for counterintelligence, foreign intelligence, and political security.

The FBI could not be reached for further comment Friday.
