Minor injuries in Rutland Township crash

Two people were hospitalized Tuesday after a two-vehicle crash in Rutland Township, county officials said.

While traveling on an icy and snow-covered Coombs Road about 2:45 p.m., the driver of a sport utility vehicle lost control and hit a Toyota Corolla almost head on, Kane County Sheriff's Lt. Pat Gengler said.

Both drivers sustained minor injuries, Gengler said. Gilberts resident Lindsey Barna, 31, who was driving the SUV, was taken to Presence St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin. The driver of the Toyota, Irina Popovich, 45, of Glendale Heights, was taken to Advocate Sherman Hospital in Elgin.

Coombs Road was closed just north of Hidden Knolls immediately after the accident but reopened by 3:30 p.m.

No tickets have been issued, Gengler said.
