Fire severely damages Macaroni Grill in Wheaton

A fire at Macaroni Grill in Wheaton Monday afternoon caused severe damage and one firefighter was injured after slipping on ice caused by water used to put the fire out, fire officials said.

The blaze started about 2:45 p.m. in the restaurant at 21 Blanchard Circle, off Naperville Road. Fire could be seen coming from the roof as firefighters worked to contain it. Nobody was injured inside the restaurant, firefighters said.

One firefighter slipped on ice and injured his back. He was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The cause of the fire is unknown. Fire investigators remained on the scene into Monday night.
