Barrington 2nd, Palatine 5th at college events meet

Naperville Central's boys swimming team proved to be most ready for campus competition.

The Redhawks took top honors in Saturday's College Events Invitational hosted by Hinsdale South, finishing with 235 points.

Barrington (196) was second, followed by Wheaton (173), Hinsdale Central (167) and Palatine (146). Libertyville took seventh, just ahead of Lake Park.

Palatine's top finish came from Alex Bartosik in the 400 IM (third). Adam Smith was fourth in the 500 free, and Bartosik was fourth in the 200 breaststroke.

Other top-six individual efforts for the Pirates came from Jordan Kalina (200 fly), Jake Klein (200 free) and Marcus Carter-Buckman (100 free). The Palatine 400 medley and 400 free relays finished fifth, and the 200 free relay was sixth.

at Elk Grove: Cary-Grove took runner-up honors in the Grenadier Invitational, using a pair of victories from Nick Jasinski and one from Ethan Hare to finish with 361 points.

Highland Park, which had a double winner in Nathan Levy (200 free, 500 free) took top honors at 1:44.04.

Jasinski won the 100 fly in 55.37 and the 100 back in 55.44, while Hare raced to victory in the 200 IM (2:06.15).

The Trojans finished up by winning the 400 free relay, with Scott Eibel, Jasinski, Hare and Cooper Langanis touching the wall in 3:22.88.

Hoffman Estates placed third with 233 points. The Hawks' top finishes came from Andy Hobar in the 100 breast (2nd, 1:03.62) and 100 fly (3rd, 56.77) and from Mark Heitkotter in the 50 free (3rd, 23.94) and 100 free (3rd, 52.03).

Elk Grove placed fifth with 221 points and got a third-place effort in the 100 back from Michael Banasik.

Frosh-soph at St. Viator: Cary-Grove edged the host Lions by a single point, 256-255, for the team title.

Winners for St. Viator included Michael Balcerak in the 200 free (1:44.41) and 100 fly (52.47), Michael Wendling in the 500 free (5:32.08) and Michael Ruben in the 200 IM (2:13.15) and 100 back (1:01.36). Those three also had legs on the winning 400 free relay, joining Hunter Reed.

Prospect finished third with 244.5 points and had winning efforts from Erbe Reidar in the 50 free (24.81) and 100 free (55.15) along with the winning medley relay of Carter Bellows, Jacob Kosinski, Dan Macina and Reidar.

Wheeling's top performer was Nick Konstantos, who won the 100 breast in 1:05.96, just ahead of Kosinski (1:06.11).
