Stevenson student pleads not guilty to gun charges

A 17-year-old Stevenson High School student pleaded not guilty Wednesday to charges he brought an unloaded handgun to school last month, officials said.

Lamont Glenn, of the 1000 block of Ranchview Court in Buffalo Grove, faces charges of felony unlawful use of a weapon, felony unlawful possession of a firearm and a misdemeanor count of not having a firearm owners identification card, said Assistant Lake County State's Attorney Stella Day.

He is due back in front of Judge Victoria Rossetti on Feb. 16, Day said. His trial is scheduled for Feb. 29.

Glenn was arrested Dec. 4 by Lincolnshire police after school officials were tipped off that he brought a gun to school the day before. The tip came from a parent, who received a text from a student claiming a classmate had a gun, authorities said.

He was taken into custody and a .38-caliber revolver was recovered by police, authorities said. No one was injured.

Police said they will work with the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to trace the gun's ownership.

Glenn is being held at Lake County's juvenile detention center near Vernon Hills despite being charged as an adult, Day said. His bail is $50,000.

Glenn also has been ordered to stay away from Stevenson, and can't be in possession of drugs or alcohol, authorities said.
