MCC offers home inspection pre-licensing course

CRYSTAL LAKE - McHenry County College is offering a home inspection pre-licensing course from 6-9:30 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday, Feb. 23 through May 12 in Room A112 at the college, 8900 U.S. Hwy. 14 in Crystal Lake.

Approved by the Office of Banks and Real Estate, the 60-hour course covers the major elements of home inspection and includes the five mandatory inspections required to prepare for the Illinois state exam. The inspections begin as early at 5 p.m. and are located at various off-site locations in McHenry and Lake counties; students are responsible for their own transportation.

A variety of topics are covered, including exteriors, electric and heating, business start up and marketing. Many home inspectors use computer software and digital cameras to generate their reports, so some computer skills may be helpful, but are not required.

Individuals who have experience in the building trades, such as, home handymen, remodelers, contractors, firefighters and tradesmen could supplement their income or start their own business with a home inspector license.

Books and materials are included in the $895 course fee. To enroll, contact the MCC Registration Office at: (815) 455-8588 or register online at: www.mchenry.edu/proed and refer to course code: URE U04-002.
